At Po Leung Kuk Grandmont Primary School, we put a strong emphasis on helping our students become biliterate and trilingual. Over the years we have taken an active role in implementing and developing a wide range of programmes to enrich the English curriculum.
In Key Stage One, we have implemented the EDB’s Primary Literacy Programme - Reading and Writing (PLP-R/W), in which our two native English-speaking teachers (NETs) co-teach the PLP-R/W lessons with our experienced local English teachers (LETs) to develop students’ language skills. From Primary Three to Six, our school-based speaking programme provides students with plenty of opportunities to take part in enjoyable diversified speaking activities co-taught by our NETs and LETs. In recent years, we have also developed a series of experiential language learning projects for Primary Three and Four students. The students are taught how to create engaging videos to share with peers, how to buy and sell food items, how to follow a recipe to make a hot dog, and so on.
In addition, our English teachers work closely together every year to develop a large-scale English day for the school. Last year, we created ‘World Trip’ for our Primary Three students. They learned about the cultures of five countries by participating in various mini-activities and interacting with their peers and teachers in English.
